CPUC Awards Grants for Broadband!

The Tech Connection checked in with Michael Anderson after last weeks CPUC meeting and he shared some exciting news, “The California Public Utilities Commission held their monthly meeting on Thursday, 12/16, last week in San Francisco. At this meeting they voted to approve two funding resolutions that will benefit Nevada County, the Race Gigafy Nevada City project and the Nevada County Fiber Buckeye project.  The Race project is funded for aerial fiber service to 499 homes, and the Nevada County Fiber project is funded for underground fiber to 28 home” This is great news that will allow two existing providers to expand their service area, and it’s particularly good news for broadband access on upper Banner Mountain, a long underserved portion of the community. We had representatives from both on TechTonic TV last year and are glad to see them continue to expand. Check back for a more in depth article and interview with Michael to dig a little further into this but we’re glad to share this good news.

We also heard from our good friends at Sierra Commons that they have gigabit internet up and running! This is an awesome resource for remote workers who need access to faster upload speeds to streamline their workflow and speed work up. Check out how to access their fantastic co-working digs in the Seven Hills business district of Nevada City at sierracommons.org
