Our Vision
Nevada County thrives as a vibrant economy that attracts and nurtures quality jobs and exceptional talent, while preserving the community’s unique character and natural environment for generations to come.
Our Mission
Our mission is to foster a thriving community that celebrates and supports individual talent, economic enterprise, and equal opportunity for all. Through the work of the Economic Resource Council, we create meaningful impact for local businesses, education, nonprofits, government, agriculture, and the arts, driving growth and collaboration across every sector.
Driving Economic Success in Nevada County for Nearly Three Decades
Since 1996, the Economic Resource Council (ERC) has been the backbone of Nevada County’s thriving business environment—fueling innovation, supporting local enterprises, and shaping a prosperous future for our community.
At the heart of the ERC is a dynamic 22-member volunteer board, bringing together business leaders, nonprofit visionaries, government officials, and industry experts. This powerhouse team, led by an executive committee, works hand in hand with Executive Director Gil Mathew and Executive Services Administrator Janet Augstein to drive impactful economic initiatives. The ERC is fueled by grants, membership support, and high-energy annual fundraisers that bring the community together.
The ERC Advantage: Innovation, Advocacy, and Growth
What sets the ERC apart? A relentless commitment to business success.
“What the ERC does really well is create an environment where businesses can thrive,” says Dale Creighton, ERC executive committee member and principal at SCO Planning, Engineering & Surveying, Inc. “When challenges arise—whether policy changes, regulations, or industry shifts—the Council’s collective expertise becomes an invaluable resource for local businesses.”
From established companies to startups, the ERC is a catalyst for growth, offering expert guidance, resource sharing, and direct support for businesses looking to expand or navigate economic challenges.
Jason Fouyer, Board Member, COO of Cranmer Engineering, and former Grass Valley Mayor, puts it simply:
“A strong economy requires many moving parts. The ERC is the critical link between public and private sectors, and because we’re nimble, we can respond quickly when businesses need us.”
Strengthening Businesses, Empowering Entrepreneurs
The ERC’s impact extends beyond Nevada County, helping businesses tap into national and global markets while strengthening the local workforce. Whether you’re an entrepreneur with a bold vision or a business leader looking to expand, the ERC is here to connect, support, and champion your success.
Join us in shaping Nevada County’s economic future—because when business thrives, our community prospers.
