All About Broadband – Fiber Optic Edition

Wonder why you can stream a movie in HD to your heart’s content but keep encountering glitchy video conferencing?  Most internet service providers offer asymmetrical speeds, allowing you to download information quite rapidly but not to upload content at anywhere near the same speed.  The fiber optic broadband revolution that is slowly coming to Nevada County will radically change this disparity.

Nevada County is a challenging place to be a digital creator whether you work from home or at an office. While we do have some lightning fast internet service providers, many neighborhoods have been left out in the cold until now. As an initiative of the Economic Resource Council, the Tech Connection addresses tech issues that will help the local economy develop and expand, but we can’t do it without you. The last time we reached out to the community to see what topics folks wanted to see us cover the overwhelming favorite was broadband: when they’re going to get service, how fast it is, and how much it will cost.

This month TechTonic TV will answer some of those questions in our episode Symmetry with Fiber Broadband, a panel discussion/interview with Race Communications, Nevada County Fiber and Steve Monaghan, Chief Information Officer of Nevada County. We will be live streaming this fascinating conversation on Facebook and YouTube, ask questions for our panel on social media or submit ahead of time at communications@nctechconnection.org
