There are several programs designed to assist the local business community in the recruitment, screening, hiring and training of new employees.
Nevada County Business & Career Center
Nevada County Business and Career Network
Nevada County Business and Career Network is an America’s Job Center of California (AJCC) operator and has a variety of programs that can assist Job Seekers and Businesses. We can assist Job seekers with finding employment or help with training for a new career. We help businesses in the recruitment, screening, hiring and training of employees. Our programs include: recruitment and screening, on-the-job training (OJT), work experience/internship, customized training, vocational training, skills upgrade and career guidance when needed. Funding for this program is through the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). Services are offered at no cost to the business or job seeker.
CalWorks Employment Services
CalWORKS Employment Services offers job coaching, education, vocational and technical training to welfare recipients who are working toward a self-sufficient lifestyle. Labor market and the needs of local employers dictate the focus of the program. Post-employment support helps ensure employers have access to well trained, quality employees.
Employment Development Department
The Employment Development Department offers employers many services including no-fee job postings; unemployment and disability insurance information, labor market information, employment tax credit certifications, layoff and plant closure assistance, and employer seminars. Department of Rehabilitation
The Department of Rehabilitation offers a number of services to employers. These include tax credits, on-the-job training, wage reimbursements, information on workplace accommodations and ADA consultation.
The Northern Rural Training And Employment Consortium (NoRTEC),
NoRTEC is a consortium of eleven Northern California Counties established to address the needs of job seekers and businesses in our region. We believe that a healthy business community creates economic vitality, and we are dedicated to strengthening and supporting area businesses in order to create jobs and encourage economic prosperity.
NoRTEC oversee’ s 13 America’s Job Centers of California (AJCC’s) that help develop the educational and occupational skills of job seekers to meet the needs of local businesses. Our AJCC’s also provide other services to businesses, including recruitment, screening and interviewing services, HR information/assistance, workshops and financial assistance with the training of employees. Our AJCC operator in Nevada County, is the Nevada County Business and Career Network. They are located both in Grass Valley and Truckee.
Nevada Union Adult School
Nevada Union Adult School exists to help adults in our county reach their educational and personal goals. Their programs are all designed to help adult learners achieve a better quality of life and enrich our community.Currently offering High School and GED completion classes along with English as a Second Language and a variety of career exploration workshops.
Established as part of the Older American’s Act (1965), the Experience Works provides part-time job training apprenticeships for low-income seniors (55+).
Sierra College, Nevada County Campus, offers employers the opportunity to work in collaboration with the college’s Career Center staff to successfully match students with employment opportunities. Employers may post open positions, present employment opportunities in classrooms, recruit on campus, or utilize the (subsidized) Work-Study programs. Employers may also work with students to explore careers in their area of interest (Informational interviews, Job Shadows, Mentorships, & Internships), or hire interns in paid or non-paid positions.
Sierra College Contract Education Office
Sierra College offers on-site customized training or retraining, professional workshops, seminars, and training needs analysis. These programs are designed to provide technical, management or personal development training to company employees at the company work site.
Employment Training Panel
The Employment Training Panel assists businesses in acquiring and re-training skilled workers by subsidizing employer training for qualified individuals.
