2017 ERC Annual Regional Economic Development Summit
Reaching Common Goals, is scheduled for Thursday, May 18 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley, and is followed by a separate VIP Dinner from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Foothill Event Center.

Highlights of the Summit:
Keynote “State of the Economy” presentation by Dr. Christopher Thornberg.  Dr. Thornberg is Founding Partner of Beacon Economics, LLC and widely considered to be one of the nation’s leading economists.  He is also the Director of the Center for Economic Forecasting and Development at the UC Riverside School of Business Administration.  An expert in economic forecasting, regional economics, labor markets, economic policy, and industry and real estate analysis, he was one of the earliest and most adamant predictors of the sub-prime mortgage collapse and of the global economic recession that followed.  A well-known commentator, Dr. Thornberg has appeared on CNN and NPR and is regularly quoted in major national dailies including the Wall Street Journal and New York Times.  In 2015, Dr. Thornberg was named to California State Treasurer John Chiang’s Council of Economic Advisors.  He also serves on the advisory boards of Paulson & Co. Inc., one of Wall Street’s leading hedge funds, and of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Southern California’s largest not-for-profit business federation.  Dr. Thornberg holds a Ph.D in Business Economics from the Anderson School at UCLA, and a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
·                     Presentation and initial public release of the Nevada County Economic Resource Council’s (NCERC) 2017-18 economic development strategic plan.  The plan, called “Reaching Common Goals”, will shed light on key county-wide economic development issues and opportunities that will become a top priority focus of NCERC (and other stakeholder groups) over the next 24 months.  Attendees will have the opportunity to share their inputs to the plan as part of the Summit, which will then be incorporated into an updated, final version of the plan.
·                     Business and V/R Vignettes.  Throughout the Summit a handful of local businesses that have made exciting progress in 2016-17 will share brief company overviews and highlights of their recent business accomplishments.  As an exciting twist, included will be some compelling companies visiting Nevada County who will share their innovations in Virtual Reality, which is a key industry segment that is one focus of NCERC.

·                     VIP Dinner – A Community Conversation.  A special post-Summit VIP dinner (separate ticket required) will feature a moderated community conversation with a panel of experts who will share their perspectives on the top priority issues and opportunities included in the NCERC 2017-18 Strategic Plan.
